BLOUNTVILLE — Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl in connection with this week's theft of a truck from a Bloomingdale home, where the victim was dragged by the vehicle while trying to stop them.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, the male (who police believe was driving the Ford Ranger when it was stolen) was located Friday morning at an apartment complex on Waverly Road in Kingsport. Shortly before 2:30 p.m., the female suspect was located at an apartment on Bowater Drive. Both are charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning. At about 6:30 a.m., police were alerted to a crash on Bloomingdale Road, where a car had snapped a utility pole. No driver or passenger was present, but — approximately 30 minutes later — a resident of nearby Rogers Avenue reported her Ford Ranger had been stolen.

According to SCSO Lt. Andy Seabolt, the victim had left it warming up in her driveway, then heard someone getting into the cab. She grabbed onto the vehicle as the suspects — who are believed to have been in the crashed car — drove away and was briefly dragged along the driveway. The pickup was located the following day on Adair Avenue in East Carters Valley.

When the juvenile female was taken into custody Friday afternoon, three adults at the residence were also arrested.

Police said James D. Crawford, 30, of Kingsport, was arrested on an outstanding domestic violence assault warrant. James A. Cheruk, 35, also of Kingsport, was charged with simple assault and resisting arrest. Roger C. Roberts, 24, of Church Hill, had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation.
